Definition of Mass Communication

                                          MASS COMMUNICATION


 Hi everybody. We are from ZEALOUS group. What is mass communication? When thinking about it, most of us thinking about media. So, to deepens this meaning, lets take a look on what mass communication are based on few definitions :



According to Defleur and Dennis: it explains that mass communication comprises the institutions and techniques by using many kinds of media like television,radio,film and others.The mass communication provides information of interesting and important events,education of health and environment,advertising and also provides entertainment.This is because out of communication in context,mass communication is more light and simple to understand and enjoy with.

 According to the Spring 2001 Theory Workbook, mass communication occurs when a small number of people send messages to a large anonymous audience through the use of communication media. The elements of mass communication consists of the messages, the mediums, and the audience. Mass communication studies the uses and effects of the media by many as opposed to the study of human interaction as in other communication contexts.

In general,mass communication exist when individual transmitting and transferring the information to a large group or community.Its differ from other types of communication such as interpersonal communication or organizational communication that use behavior and attitude.

Nowadays, people tend to depend on mass communication media to get any current issue in this country even all around the world. There is one of theories under mass communication which is Cultivation Theory. This theory states that high frequency viewers of television tend to believe that media messages are real and valid.
